Our Constitution
preserving the heritage whilst supporting Penzance's future
Name:
-
The name of the body governed by this constitution is ‘Penzance Civic Society’ hereinafter ‘the Society’.
Objectives:
-
To protect and enhance the ‘Sense of Place’ that helps make Penzance a unique and special place to live, work or visit.
-
To inform and seek engagement from a wide cross section of residents in matters affecting Penzance.
How:
-
The Committee will act as a communication bridge between the community and the Penzance Council, stimulating public interest in, knowledge of and care for Penzance and its environs.
-
Communications will be through modern media such as the Society’s website, email, and social media to a broad and local audience.
-
The Committee will liaise with the Penzance Council and other local interest groups such as the Penzance Old Cornwall Society, the Cornish Buildings Group, and the Penzance Community Flora Group.
-
The Society will provide architectural expertise via an Architectural Design Advisory Panel comprising of experienced and well-respected architects who live and work in Penwith.
-
It is intended that comments made on planning matters will be forwarded to Society members, together with the planning references so that members can make their own comments to the Cornwall County Planning Office.
-
As the Penzance Civic Society and the advisory panel are unelected bodies, only observational comments can be made on planning matters.
-
-
To maximise participation, it is intended to minimise on-going running costs and avoid the necessity for subscription fees. See section 7).
Membership:
-
Membership is open to individuals aged sixteen and over who agree to support the objectives of the Society.
-
The Society will adhere to the principles of the UK General Data Protection Regulation.
-
An electronic list of members will be maintained, only used for Society purposes, and not shared with third parties.
-
Membership will require confirmation that the owners email address can be retained.
-
Only members are eligible to vote at meetings, stand for office or serve on the Committee.
